Some English expressions are only that expressions. However, what if some could be taken literally, like bottling emotions would help the mental health field dramatically. It has already been done with scent in perfumes. Why not with emotions? With the technology based scientific field of today, anything is possible. Genome research is being done to understand gene linking diseases and the stimulating process of simplify the system of the human body is continually under way. Exploring and further understanding the human brain is not an easy task, but would be a significant scientific discovery and an everlasting link to emotion.
It is thought that the central area of the brain, the limbic system, is most directly involved with emotion. According to BBG Communications, emotions consist of arousal patterns of the vertebrate in which neurochemicals increase the brain's activity level. This often results in physical displays which are emotional cues.
Similar to aromas, emotions are either negative or positive. Some distinctive emotions are feelings of agreement, amusement, anger, certainty, control, disagreement, disgust, disliking, embarrassment, fear, guilt, happiness, hate, interest, liking, love, sadness, shame, surprise, and uncertainty. These are only a few of what humans can experience and this is without any combinations.
Computer models of emotion are currently being developed. However, the difference between a robot and a human is said to be the ability to love. Would this fine line now be broken? It would be a grand discovery to be able to isolate emotion and then be able to feel that emotion on demand.
Isolating neurochemicals to be specifically applied to emotion would be a challenging, yet fascinating procedure. Imagine emotion like a vaccine for example or popping a pill. One could experience any emotion for a temporary amount of time. This scientific discovery would most likely be controversial. In a worst case scenario or if used in inappropriate circumstances, emotions could be the new "drug" and one might need a love' fix every so often. There is also the possibility and heightened uncertainty of genuine affection and more artificial people in existence. However, the secret to harnessing emotion could be useful.
If someone people were diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD or ADD), for which no medical cure is available, bottling emotion might be a cure. By changing emotion, there might be enough time to feel control and assist in focusing the person. For example, the emotion of "determination" could assist people in working more diligently. Also, it could simply assist people in de-stressing; they could take a dose of happiness.
The ultimate scientific discovery would need to benefit the human race in some way, and medical advancement seems to be an ideal solution. So much anger and hatred is present in today's world, and wouldn't it just be great, for an instant, if everyone could be happy? This utopia could in fact become a reality with extensive research. Bottling emotion would revolutionize the way that people feel and when people feel the way they do.
